The radical leftists who run the majority of the social media platforms we all enjoy — I used the term “enjoy” lightly as the comments I consistently see all over Facebook and Twitter are so rancid they give me ulcers — claim to be “tolerant” yet when it comes to allowing folks to express views that don’t neatly line up with the progressive worldview, those folks get silenced.
We’ve seen many conservative people on Facebook get banned or suspended for “hate speech” simply for stating they didn’t agree with homosexuality or transgenderism. The same has happened on an even larger scale on Twitter. Gee, what tolerance.
This is totally ludicrous when you take a look at the insanity they allow liberals to post, like wishing someone dead of cancer or that they would get shot or meet some other horrible fate.
Now we have yet another example of this nonsense. A Republican lawmaker posted a pro-life campaign video on her profile, only to have Twitter block it. Strangely, and totally out of character for the social media giant, they reversed their decision and stated they might “refine” some of their policies.
How nice of them.
via The Daily Caller:
Twitter may “refine” some of its policies a couple days after blocking a campaign announcement from Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, the social media company indicated Wednesday.
Blackburn, who is running for Senate, claims in the campaign video to have “stopped the sale of baby body parts,” as she chaired a House panel investigating the purchases of fetal tissue by the nonprofit Planned Parenthood. A representative for Twitter later told Blackburn’s vendors that the ad was removed Monday because the lawmaker’s description of fetal tissue is considered “an inflammatory statement that is likely to evoke a strong negative reaction.”
This is the second time in roughly three weeks Twitter has said it will likely update or alter policies, initially after users complained that a President Donald Trump tweet amounted to a “declaration of war” against North Korea and thus constitutes as threats of violence.
Twitter reversed its most recent decision, alluding to the initial decision as a “difficult” one.
“Our ads policies strive to balance protecting our users from potentially distressing content with allowing our advertisers to communicate their messages,” a spokeswoman for Twitter told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “Nowhere is this more difficult than in the realm of political advertising and the highly charged issues that are often addressed therein. After further review, we have made the decision to allow the content in question from Rep. Blackburn‘s campaign ad to be promoted on our ads platform.”
As a private company Twitter can do whatever the heck they want and decide who can post and what they can tweet about if they so desire. However, that doesn’t mean they won’t pay dearly for their stance by losing tons of users.
They should at least be upfront about their discrimination and say they don’t like the opinions of others, especially when they disagree with a certain set of beliefs. Oh but they won’t do that because that doesn’t appear tolerant on the surface, even though they are far from inclusive and tolerant underneath it all.
Too bad intellectual honesty isn’t a virtue taught among the left.
