The National Football League just really doesn’t seem to be understanding the message that viewers continue to send them each week by not tuning into the games , sending their ratings swirly down the toilet bowl.

Ever since failed quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided to launch a new career as an activist by taking a knee during the National Anthem played before football games, fans have opted to not put up with the disrespect being shown our nation and its veterans by turning off games when players participate in their “protest.”

Some players have lost sponsors, which is a huge hit to the bankroll, but when it comes to the pressure being applied by our modern day culture to look cool on social media through hashtag activism, athletes just can’t resist the fifteen minutes of fame they get for taking a knee.

People have thought that the dangerously low ratings would get the point across to the NFL that they need to enforce their own rules and make these players stand for the anthem, allowing them to take a knee during some other time.

Nope. Not at all. In fact, those in charge of the league seem bound and determined to throw their support behind these players, no matter how much it might alienate their fans.

The NFL is now set to bankroll a social activism boot camp for professional athletes.

via Daily Caller:

The NFL is going to bankroll a “social activism boot camp” for professional athletes in February, according to a new report.

“The league has agreed to finance a social activism boot camp at Morehouse College in February,” ESPN’s Jim Trotter reported on Monday.

The boot camp will reportedly take place over two days and will include professional athletes from other leagues besides the NFL. “And then, the organizers of that curriculum will work with the players throughout the year to try and teach them to get their message out and be most effective with it,” Trotter added.

The NFL has also reportedly agreed to back criminal justice reform legislation recently introduced by a bipartisan group of senators.

So it seems as if the powers that be running the NFL are more concerned with looking like social justice warriors than creating a place where Americans of all different political persuasions might come together, forget their differences, and just be normal people for awhile.

This is what professional sports used to do for us all. We set everything aside for a few hours and became part of the same team, even if it was just for a little while. Now, thanks to the league bringing politics into the mix, our nation will be more divided than ever.

It’s truly tragic to see the NFL roll over to social justice warriors for the sake of looking hip and cool. Let’s hope Major League Baseball continues to hold strong and resist the pull to sell their souls for the sake of relevance.
