When you join any branch of the military, you are no longer just a regular citizen. You are part of something greater than yourself, a fighting force like none other ever seen in the history of the human race.
It comes with a number of responsibilities that make life tough, but at the same time, incredibly rewarding. You represent your country wherever you go, you swear an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, the document that provides us with the liberties we enjoy on a daily basis.
In order to do your job well in the armed forces, you have to be a person of upstanding moral character, someone who will take their duty seriously, will defend their commander-in-chief’s life if necessary and is willing to die protecting the nation they claim to love.
Apparently the memo containing this vital information and job description never made it into the hands of William Robert Dunbar who was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and terroristic threats after threatening the life of Vice President Pence.
via Chicago Tribune:
Authorities say a National Guardsman has been jailed after a reported threat against Vice President Mike Pence before his visit to Pennsylvania for the annual observance of the Flight 93 crash.
Richland Township police allege that Dunbar was on duty at the Army National Guard Training Center when he said, “If someone pays me enough money, I will kill the vice president.” Witnesses said they contacted commanding officers after they heard Dunbar make the threat twice.
Police said Dunbar was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center for evaluation and then to county prison in lieu of $250,000 bond. Court documents don’t list an attorney and a listed phone number for Dunbar couldn’t be found Monday.
What would make a young man with a promising career and his whole life ahead of him do something so stupid that he surely knew would cost him everything he’s worked for?
Was he wanting out of his service? If so, why sign up to begin with? It doesn’t make sense. At all.
Also, I can’t help but wonder why the first response to someone the left disagrees with is always to murder them in cold blood? Have we gotten so used to throwing temper tantrums and giving in to feelings that we just want to assassinate anyone who thinks differently?
Whatever happened to just sitting down and talking things out? A good, old fashioned debate with well reasoned arguments can go along way in changing people’s hearts and minds on an issue.
So why is this format so underused and so many people eager to kill over political and religious beliefs?
It’s truly a sad time for humanity, as we seem to have lost our way so badly we can’t find how to get back. Not without God’s help, anyway.
There’s also the possibility this young man has some sort of mental illness, in which case he needs some serious help to deal with whatever he is going through.
It’s a tough job to be president and vice president, your whole life under the microscope and people wishing you dead simply because they dislike your beliefs and policy stances.
Not a job for the faint of heart. Still, no human being should fear for their lives due to the unhinged lunacy that comes from some individuals in this country.
This is even more of a reason to stress the need for a change in our culture, a shift back to debate, discussion, freedom of speech instead of all of this hatred and vitriol.
Pray for our country.
