In recent weeks, America has been rocked by violent protests from white supremacists that have taken our already deeply divided country and widened the gap by a margin not seen since the days of the Civil War.

Folks from all walks of life are at each other’s throats, demanding one side or the other bow down to demands that, at their core, undermine the very liberty that has made our nation one of the greatest the world has, and likely will ever, see.

Much of the hatred and division has left people, particularly those of faith, feeling jaded, anxious, and bewildered, wondering what in the world has happened to make people so vicious and violent toward one another.

Well, one of America’s most famous evangelists, the legendary Billy Graham, has a final warning for America about the current spiritual condition of the country that sheds light on how we got here and what will happen if we don’t repent and turn back to God.

The Rev. Billy Graham, an American prophet and the most inspiring evangelist of the past century, warns that America’s problems have been triggered by our self-centered obsessions, pride, and lack of shame over sin.

Still, Dr. Graham remains hopeful for America’s spiritual revival and return to God.

At age 98 and retired from the pulpit, Graham has dedicated his closing days to saving America by turning souls to Christ, who died on the cross for their sins.

In his open prayer letter to Americans in 2012, Graham warned: “My heart aches for America and its deceived people.” However, he noted there is a precedent for renewal in the Holy Bible.

He referred to the salvation of Nineveh, the ancient Biblical city mentioned in the gospels of Matthew and Luke: “When the Prophet Jonah finally traveled to Nineveh and proclaimed God’s warning, people heard and repented.

“I believe the same thing can happen once again, this time in our nation.”

Still, he is concerned about possible end times. The signs “are converging now for the first time since Jesus made those predictions,” Graham wrote to WND in an exclusive email interview.

Graham has stated on numerous occasions that the sort of Christianity that is prevalent in modern America is one that believes a person can just walk right into Heaven because God is love, but, that would make the cross of Jesus Christ unnecessary.

In other words, sin is a big deal.

The legendary prophet, who has been used mightily by the Lord throughout his incredible lifetime, said, “We as a nation have turned our back on God who blessed our country because it’s fundamental principles were grounded in the Word of God.”

Instead of a genuine, biblically based and saturated faith that seeks the glory of God by obeying His commands, we’ve traded truth for an ala carte type of religion, picking and choosing what we want to believe so long as it doesn’t put us at odds with others.

Billy Graham has a simple solution for the mess that our great nation currently finds itself in: The people of America must repent of their sin, of their false worship and idolatry, and seek to have a personal relationship with the King of Kings, the God-Man, Jesus Christ.

If our nation humbles itself, confesses its sin, and turns back to God’s Word as the standard of justice and righteous living both in the personal lives of the citizenry and in the public sphere, we will once again see God’s blessings shine down on our country and prosperity will reign again.

It all starts with the church doing it’s part to boldly proclaim the true gospel of Christ and apply it — along with the rest of the Word — to every area of life, whether it be running a business, in the entertainment industry, or in the realm of politics.

As folks come to faith and grow to be mature disciples who live out their proclamation, the country will be renewed and transformed by His grace.

If we as a people continue to neglect the many gracious warnings the Lord has sent us, if we keep wallowing in our sin and ignoring His goodness, our liberty, our freedom, our blessed way of life will become naught but ash.
