Once upon a time, the most controversial topic facing Christians was that of homosexuality, and while that’s still a pretty big one, it’s being rapidly replaced by transgenderism.

We as believers are now entering a world where the very fabric of biological identity, something that is proven scientific fact, is now being denied by the political left who needed a new pet cause to take advantage of in order to further their own big government agenda.

Given that a Christian’s top priority is preaching the gospel to all people, we need to know how to apply the message of salvation to those who identify as transgenders as well as applying God’s Word to the social ramifications of this issue.

Dr. Frank Turek recently released a video on Facebook sharing information with believers that will help them engage with transgendered topics.

Via Activist Mom:

Turek uses the example of a 5’9″ white man telling people that he’s a 6’5″ Chinese woman.

Or within the context of an eating disorder like anorexia. Typically, people who suffer from anorexia have a dysphoria that seemingly disconnects their physical state with their mental state. While they might feel as though they’re very much over weight, those who suffer from severe anorexia are seriously under weight or well on their way.

“THIS IDEA THAT YOU’RE DIFFERENT FROM YOUR BIOLOGICAL SEX IS A PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDER.”

Turek went on to say that when you suggest a person has something wrong with their heart, they don’t take offense. When you suggest a person might have something wrong with their brain, however, society treats it as a reason to take offense—but it shouldn’t be.

“WHY DO WE DO THAT? WHY IS IT THAT IF YOU SAY ‘I HAVE A BAD HEART,’ THERE’S NO SHAME IN THAT, BUT IF I HAVE A BAD BRAIN, THERE IS SHAME IN THAT? I DON’T THINK THERE SHOULD BE.”

Another speaker in the video adds that the American Psychological Association “has become such a political lobby.”

“ISN’T INTERESTING THAT AROUND 1972, THEY LOBBIED NOT BASED UPON SCIENTIFIC BREAKTHROUGH, BUT SIMPLY FOR POLITICAL MANEUVERING, THAT HOMOSEXUALITY WAS NO LONGER A PSYCHOLOGICAL OR EMOTIONAL DISORDER.”

The idea that transgenderism is a mental illness is a fact that absolutely sends the left into hysterics, but that doesn’t make it any less true, and as Christians, this means we must absolutely be willing to go the distance and fight to uphold this reality. It’s part of how we can serve those dealing with this issue and help them achieve freedom, along with the gospel.

Now, that doesn’t mean we have to berate or be hostile toward those who are transgender. We are commanded by Christ to approach all people with gentleness and a spirit of love. However, capitulating to the culture and supporting their false idea of gender is not loving.

It’s been proven by studies that transgenderism often leads to severe depression and suicide attempts. Many who undergo reassignment surgery often end up regretting it and developing other mental issues.

It’s not compassionate to encourage someone to indulge a mental health problem. Would we tell loved ones to throw caution to the wind and choke down a few pounds of bacon each day if they had heart disease? Would we encourage a depressed person to think negative thoughts about how difficult their lives are?

Obviously not.

The left sees transgender individuals as political tools to move forward their agenda. They can’t turn the government into a nanny state if the traditional family unit still exists, which is why they have worked hard to destroy it through both the homosexual agenda and now the transgender issues sweeping the country.

As Christians, it’s up to us to lovingly correct this wayward culture and treat transgenders as fellow image bearers of God who are perfect the way they are — speaking in terms of gender — and are worth more than being political pawns.
